A scree on Andre Picard’s recent op ed…

I don’t think I’ve written a post in a while…more than a year?  I’ve been busy.  But something recently inspired me to come out of my “retirement,” and that something was Andre Picard’s piece in the Globe and Mail, “It’s time to stop treating pregnancy like a disease.” It is so egregious, so ignorant and […]

A perfectly reasonable request.

The last time I was on call I went walking through the maternity unit/ LDR.  I do this every time I’m on call, not because I’m “trolling for work” or trying to find an impressionable woman in labour that I can foist an epidural on, nope it’s part of “resource management.”  See, in the middle of […]

How old do you have to be to provide good health care?

Several times a week, I have patients ask me how old I am.  I know I look younger than the age stated on my driver’s licence.  When I wear a surgical cap my paltry handful of grey hairs are not visible.  I have some wrinkles, but not many.  My stock response to this question, is “certainly […]

Turns out I’m not immune…

…to the mumps that is. I’m applying for hospital privileges right now and part of that is providing evidence of immunity to various diseases…measles, mumps, rubella, Hepatitis B, chicken pox etc etc.  Because my vaccination records are currently several time zones away and there is no “official” record of my infection with chicken pox (a photograph […]
